Suction Machine

When to Use a Suction Machine

As the body processes decrease, it may become difficult for a hospice patient to swallow their normal saliva.  A suction machine is provided to help remove the saliva so the hospice patient does not choke or inadvertently breathe the saliva into their lungs.

A suction machine is a vacuum device with small flexible tubing.  The tubing is held gently to or in the patients mouth to periodically remove excess saliva.
