When to Use a Nebulizer

A nebulizer can be used to deliver medication to ease shortness of breath and wheezing.  The medication is usually an albuterol derivative or a steroid, and soothes inflammation and swelling in the windpipe and lungs.  

A patient may be prescribed a neubilzed medication if shortness of breath or wheezing is present.  

A nebulizer is essentially a small fan-powered device that causes liquid medicine to become an aeorsol, allowing the patient to breathe the medication into their lungs.  This medication is usually to allievate wheezing and shortness of breath.
